Story
We will create a vibrant, accessible Community Hub in South Oxfordshire, providing a safe social and learning space, where people can maximise their potential. We envisage the venue hosting a variety of Yellow Submarine projects which promote confidence, independence and social skills as well as making the venue available to like-minded organisations working with marginalised groups in Abingdon and the surrounding area. We aim to give members the opportunity to volunteer with partner organisations to gain real life work experience, contribute to, and feel part of, the local community.
The South region has seen the largest growth of all regions and now comprises 40% of Young People and 30% of Adults of our entire membership. With such high demand, it is becoming increasingly difficult to support our existing members in the region and with a predicted surge in referrals relating to ill mental health, it is essential we have a dedicated space in the region to complete our work. Whilst we are able to offer practical work experience within our cafes in both Oxford and Witney, we have no training base in the South. With over a quarter of adult members living in the South and 60% of young people turning 18 in the next 3 years, it is vital we have a continuing offer for them.
