Story

Winter Wonderwheels CP Sport charity teams

1. Graceful Runners

The Graceful Runners - Josh, Matt, Rafi and Roy

We are one of the charity teams who are supporting CP Sport. CP Sport have supported most of the team over the past few years by providing opportunities for them to take part in athletics competitions and they do a fantastic job of encouraging others to get involved in the sport too.

Three of the group are RaceRunners - a sport encouraged by CP Sport. Rafi is a RaceRunner who has run for Great Britain, won a Silver Medal in the World Championships last year and holds two World Records in the sport. Matt has represented England in RaceRunning and has also focussed a lot of his time recently taking part in Endurance Events, raising a lot of money in the process! He has completed Half Marathons at Manchester, Silverstone and The Great North Run. He has recently become the first RaceRunner to complete the London Marathon (virtual)! Josh, our youngest member is quite new to RaceRunning but has competed in CP Sport events last year. He has just left hospital following an operation so this challenge will be even more challenging for him. Roy, our newest member is not a RaceRunner, but is not new to raising money for charity. When he was younger he ran 15 Marathons including the London Marathon in '86 where he managed a time of 2Hrs 57! He has also completed a solo cycle ride from Lands End to John O 'Groats and initiated an event he called 65 at 65 where he swam 2m, cycled 50m and then ran 13m. Having lived with Prostate Cancer for 15 years, during which time he has raised thousands for charity he is battling the disease and has joined us to walk with the aid of a walking frame.

Each member of the group has set his own part of the challenge:

Roy has challenged himself to walk 30km. Rafi has set himself the target of RaceRunning 20Km, Cycling 10 km and covering 10km on his treadmill. Matt hopes to take part following surgery. He will decide on his challenge following his treatment. Josh has challenged himself to walking, or RaceRunning 10km as he recovers.

Thank you for your support!

2. The Fantastic 3

Between Rich, Emily and Leon the team will complete an accumulative 60K distance

My name is Rich and I have worked at CP Sport since 2017, I am currently the National CP Football Development Officer. I have seen first hand the positive impact sport and physical activity can have on adults and children with cerebral palsy. I am taking part with the team challenge to show my support, inspire others and help raise funding to support more people with cerebral palsy to participate in sports or activity.

My name is Emily. I have always been active however I just recently rented a RaceRunner from CP Sport and having not done Race Running before I was keen to see if it was something I could do. I havent looked back - its been great I want to inspire others to show what you can achieve if you put your mind to it and to raise money for a fantastic charity helping people with cp access sports. I plan to take on this challenge in various different ways using my wheelchair and RaceRunner I have never done challenge like this its going to be really fun.

Hi, I am Leon. I am a former goalkeeper with the England Cerebral Palsy Football Team with the team from 2003-201. I competed all over the world and a highlight was representing GB at the Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008. I am a CP Sport Ambassadors and take part in many activities raising awareness about cp. I plan to cover 20km as part of my Winter Wonderwheels challenge by walking my son to school and not using the car for the school run. The distance is approximately 1.5km there and back so I will aim to do this journey 15 times over the duration of the challenge. My reasons for doing the challenge are to raise funds for and awareness of CP Sport. It will also encourage me to go out for a walk every day! Having cp means that regular exercise is beneficial in keeping my muscles toned and helps to avoid stiffness in my joints.
