Story

#TriThisAtHome

With the uncertainty that has been presented to the triathlons this year, the triathletes are taking matters into their own hands by bringing Schools Triathlon home.

#TriThisAtHome is an exciting challenge where triathletes complete three exercises with three minutes on the clock per activity, calculating distances and seeing how far they can travel around the world together. These challenges are keeping the triathletes fit, healthy and connected with their teammates, whilst raising vital funds to combat the spread of coronavirus.

Restless Development and COVID19

Like many other charities, we have lost over 30% of our vital income overnight due to this global pandemic. As a smaller charity, Restless Development relies on the vital income raised by our amazing triathletes to deliver essential projects across Africa and Asia - working with young leaders to change lives for the better.

This pandemic threatens the well being, economies and lives of everyone in the world, but the most vulnerable communities will be hit the hardest.

In the developing world, the pandemic now stands to spread rapidly. In Sierra Leone for example, there is just 1 ventilator for a population of 7.5 million people.

But with the continued support of Restless Development, young people in some of the most vulnerable countries in the world are taking action.

Stop the Spread of the Virus

Ramlat is part of our Girls Let's Be Leaders programme in Tanzania. With support from Restless Development, these girls are coming together to make face masks to help protect people from the virus.

£5 could support innovative young women in Tanzania to make 30 masks.

Build Resilient Communities

Young people are more connected now than ever and can easily influence each other with knowledge and practices that can help change peoples attitudes and perceptions.

£40 could provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including sanitizers, face masks and surgical gloves to 10 young people in Zimbabwe to safely train their communities on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Stop dangerous misinformation

The spread of COVID-19 has been matched by the spread of fake news and misinformation which can be harmful and dangerous. For example, the spread of misinformation in Iran has resulted in hundreds of deaths from people drinking methanol in the hope of curing the virus.

£60 could train and equip over 20 young people in the UK to research, record, report or respond to COVID-19 misinformation.

Thank you for your support

We are so grateful for anything supporters are able to give us, particularly during this time.

With the virtual Schools Triathlon taking place on the 28th June, a weekly target can be set from now until event day that would help your triathlete reach their £50 target.

We're encouraging triathletes to raise their sponsorship by June, so that Restless Development can be as effective as possible in tackling this global pandemic. (They won't need to raise it again to take part in September).

Together - as a community of triathletes, schools, parents, teachers, schools and volunteers - we can play a part in the greatest global movement and collective action in history.
