CABVI's Yes You Can 5K is an event where people of all ages and abilities come together to support the important work of our agency. The funds raised from the 5K directly benefit CABVI's services and equipment for people with vision loss.
A Brighter Future for Owen
Owen Moore and his fraternal twin Caleb were born prematurely at 26 weeks. Owen was referred to CABVI for services by Cincinnati Children's Hospital when he was nine months old. He had cortical visual impairment which means that while his eyes work, his brain doesn't easily process what he sees.
In the first year with CABVI, he started using his vision and this improved his mobility. He started reaching for toys and crawling. We learned to use bright primary colors and adapt his environment.
CABVI's services helped us understand Owen's challenges and then he began to flourish...His brain needed extended time to process his vision. CABVI specialists provided emotional support, information and ways to encourage Owen to use his vision functionally.
