Story
To launch Caring Kits for Kids charity, we invite you to help us collectively travel 40,000 km to represent the estimated 40,000 children and young people entering the care system in the UK each year (ref: https://homeforgood.org.uk/statistics). Be it walking, cycling, swimming or running, let's try and achieve this goal and promote the cause!
We request a minimum donation of £15 to participate please - then log your km from present day at https://forms.gle/dqeh7B37rbh4qqrc9 (copy and paste link into a new browser window).
The Cause
When a child enters emergency foster care they will be at their most vulnerable often with no belongings or familiar faces. The child will usually be taken to hospital for a child protection medical check where any emergency services involved, and the hospital staff, face emotional stress with little means of providing comfort at such a harrowing time. In addition, hospitals are seeing increasing numbers of expectant mothers arriving at hospital with no belongings to care for themselves or their new-born baby.
The Solution
Caring Kits for Kids raises much needed funds to fill this gap in support. Every penny donated goes toward buying a rucksack and everything that child or new mother would need for 24 hours.
Gender-neutral childrens caring kits contain pyjamas, underwear, a cuddly toy, a book, toothbrush, toothpaste and other hygiene products, plus sensory items to offer a welcome distraction. All items are brand new as many children have not had new things to call their own before and the charitys aim is to create a sustainable and ethical supply chain to reflect the charitys values.
£12 will buy the clothes and a cuddly toy for a childs caring kit
£30 will buy a complete caring kit for a child
