Story

Nightstop is a youth homeless prevention service working across Greater Manchester and Wilmslow. Nightstop places young people at risk of homelessness in the spare room of a trained community volunteer for the night when they have nowhere else to go.

Nightstop then work with the young person to find permanent housing, and provide support around education, training and employment.

£15 can provide a young person with a safe place to sleep, a hot meal, breakfast in the morning and a packed lunch, as well as somewhere to have a wash and clean their clothes. When you support Nightstop, you'll be supporting young people like Ty:

Ty is 19. After experiencing domestic violence within the family home his relationship with several family members broke down and he was street homeless for 24 hours before referring himself to Nightstop Greater Manchester.

At that time he was severely depressed with nowhere to sleep.

Nightstop provided Ty with a safe place to sleep in the spare rooms of three of our volunteers where he had someone to talk to. He had a really positive experience with all three hosts, saying that they always went out of their way to help. Nightstop was also able to help Ty with food and travel to and from the host homes.

While Ty was staying with Nightstop, staff introduced him to education, employment and training opportunities as well as looking for long-term accommodation options and supporting him through the process of applying for supported housing.

Ty was able to successfully move on from Nightstop into supported housing. He says Nightstop gave him confidence to talk to new people which had a positive impact on his mental health. He began to feel positive for the future and felt a sense of ambition going forwards. He says, Nightstop does what its there to do and more. I had a brilliant outcome, I had brilliant support and brilliant services were offered to me. I left Nightstop feeling confident and with the outcome I wanted.

As you can imagine, covid-19 has created many challenges for Nightstop, but we have continued to host young people in need throughout lockdown, providing over 300 safe nights for young people at risk of homelessness.

Thank you for your support!
