In 1976 a group of women in Glasgow opened the first rape crisis centre in Scotland, giving up their time for free to ensure that survivors of sexual violence could get support over the phone. The 'helpline' was one phone and an answering machine. A lot has changed in the Glasgow & Clyde Rape Crisis Centre in the 43 years since, but one thing remains the same; our helpline service is still staffed by an amazing group of women who donate their time and specialised skills for free.

Over the last 5 years our helpline service has changed dramatically to reflect what survivors told us would make that first contact a little easier. Helpline services are now called Connect Live to reflect the range of options we have for accessing support and to indicate the instant access to support when it is needed. In addition to the telephone, we now have mobile text, instant messaging, email, Skype and Facetime.
