Operation Hedgehog Appeal

Hedgehogs are now classed as vulnerable to extinction. If we don't act now they could be lost forever. As we head towards Christmas, hedgehogs across Cornwall will be hibernating but a lack of food and shelter means many wont make it through winter.

Story

Help hedgehogs have a future this Christmas - Whatever you can give will make a difference.

We face the devastating announcement that hedgehogs are now on the conservation Red List, meaning they are officially classified as 'vulnerable to extinction'. Whilst distressing, this news sadly wasn't a surprise, with UK hedgehog numbers decreasing by around two thirds since 1990. Their habitats are threatened and its increasingly difficult for them to find food or travel; as a result, many face hunger and isolation.

The faster we raise vital funds, the faster we can act to protect them from possible extinction.

In early 2020, we launched our appeal for Operation Hedgehog to:

(1) Survey hedgehog numbers, so we can understand where and why they're most vulnerable

(2) Work with and influence landowners, developers and policy makers, to improve and create habitats that feed, shelter and protect hedgehogs

(3) Support community activities to help people take action for hedgehogs

(4) Assist rescue centres in Cornwall to care for hedgehogs that have struggled to prepare for hibernation

Having raised almost £14,000, were over halfway towards the required £25,000. Our members generosity has already enabled work across Cornwall, but this Christmas we need your support to reach the target and implement Operation Hedgehog at scale.

Hedgehogs classification as vulnerable to extinction is a warning. It isn't an inevitably. Please help.

Thank you.
