Story
The Andy Nairn Bursaries in Technical Theatre aims to open doors for young people who are passionate about pursuing a career in technical theatre.
One of the strands of the scheme is an ongoing 18-month Creative Venue Technician apprenticeship delivered in house at Curve. The recipient of the apprenticeship will be trained in all aspects of stage craft - including scenery and equipment, automated flying, lighting, sound and video, equipping them with the skills and experience necessary to progress professionally.
Though we ask for financial contributions all year round, throughout November, all our fundraising efforts are directed towards this scheme which promotes and nurtures the talents of young people from backgrounds not currently represented in the theatre industry. As one of the most technically advanced theatres in the UK, we work with the world's most successful creatives and open a vast array of productions. Our ambition is to share our skills and expertise with the next generation of industry professionals.
Speaking about the appeal, Curves Chief Executive Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Nikolai Foster said:
The Andy Nairn Bursaries in Technical Theatre are named in honour of Andy Nairn, our much-missed Head of Production, who passed away last November aged just 34 years old.
Andy wasnt only an exceptionally talented and respected technician and production manager, but he was an incredible leader and mentor for those starting out in technical theatre. He was deeply passionate about training the technicians of tomorrow, encouraging people from all backgrounds to embark on a career in the arts. Throughout November, we are asking people to give what they can to support this initiative and help provide training opportunities for young people in Andy''s name.
