Story
Deckfest is a project started some years ago by Paul Westwood on his decking in Main Harbour when he invited various musician friends from London to have a day of music making in Sovereign Harbour. It became so popular that he needed a bigger venue, so moved the event to Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club and decided to use the day to raise money for Wetwheels.
Wetwheels provides the opportunity for all disabled people, including those with profound and complex disabilities, to access the sea in a safe, stimulating and rewarding way on board specially-built, fully-accessible powerboats.
By offering the opportunity to experience the sea not just as passengers, but as active participants we build confidence and improve physical and mental wellbeing. The Wetwheels concept was developed and pioneered by disabled adventurer, Geoff Holt MBE DL, and is proven to be highly successful.
"There is something very special about being on the water. For someone with a disability, being at sea offers unparalleled freedoms. Your mind and imagination fill with things that once didn't seem possible."
This year there are 17 talented Musicians, who manifest themselves into 3 Bands, 3 Duos and 1 Solo Artist. They will all be performing Multiple Sets of "live" music, across many music genres and from across the last 7 decades. The music starts at 1:00pm until late and, irrespective of your music genre preferences, there will be something for everyone..... as every song that is played you will know.
Every Musician performing at DeckFest 2021 has donated their services free of charge, but in return are seeking donations to Wetwheels.
Due to the generosity of all the musicians 100% of all donations will go to The Wetwheels Foundation and the money will be used to bring a Wetwheels boat back to Eastbourne in 2023 to give local people with disabilities the experience of going to sea.
