Story

We started Dogs Friends in January 2007, mainly to help ex puppy farm dogs but also other needy canines. Since then, we have helped a massive range of over 4,000 dogs. New born pups to very elderly. Tiny dogs up to huge dogs. Some dogs that arrive here in such terrible states, we are amazed they are still alive. A lot are so terrified that it takes time and all the skills we have learnt over the years to be able to help them become happy dogs.
This year we have taken in even more very special souls who have needed urgent veterinary care. Within the last 2 months alone we've taken in 8 dogs needing specialist referral vet treatment. This comes on top of the routine vet care, such as vaccinations, neutering, flea and wormer and general health checks. Many of our dogs also come in needing urgent dentals, ear and eye treatment and have skin conditions that need extra care.

The eight dogs are

Bella, a Shar Pei, who had been a pet her whole life and had also suffered such bad entropia, she had never been able to open her eyes properly and was in constant pain. She has had two lots of specialist ops and is doing very well.

Lovely Cavalier puppy, Nora, who had a very damaged heart and needed urgent heart surgery to save her from dying.

Marigold, a newly retired puppy farm blue French Bulldog. Both ears had become so infected, pus was chronically oozing out of both ears. The pain she must have been in for a very long time must have been terrible. Marigold has had a lot of treatment to get the infection and pain under control. She will shortly be having further surgery on both ear canals.

Mindy arrived here in a piteous state. She could not use her back leg and both her eyes were so badly infected, she could barely see. The day after arriving with us, she had to have a massive amount of dental work as her mouth was very badly infected with rotten teeth. This amazingly cheerful, happy tiny Beagle is so grateful and pleased to be out of the cramped puppy farms conditions she had endued for many years. Mindy has had a lot of special treatment and care, including x-rays, bone samples taking, on going eye drops, etc. etc. She does not now look recognisable as the same little dog that first arrived here earlier this summer.

Sam, a sweet, gentle elderly black lurcher who arrived with us from Brecon Pound. He struggles to breath, especially when the weather is hot. He will be having a laryngeal tie back performed by a great specialist shortly, This will, hopefully, give Sam a much more comfortable retirement life.

Aimee Belle is a young French Bulldog cross JR. She developed a serious eye problem shortly after we took her in and required an urgent eye operation with a specialist.

Dolly, the tiny black young Collie. This poor little girl has had terrible bouts of illness since first arriving with us at the start of this summer. She charms everyone that meets her and continues to fight for her life.

Miniature Schnauzers, mother and daughter, Madge and Maggie needed dental work, spaying, etc. after arriving here as newly retired breeding girls. Maggie also had such a massive hernia that she was in imminent danger of dying without it being skilfully repaired.

These are just some of the dogs. They all needed and deserved the best care we could give them. We are so lucky to have fantastic vets that all do amazing work. But this is obviously very costly. We could not choose who to help and who not to treat. Consequently, ALL dogs we take in have the best vet care. And therefore we have huge vet bills to pay.

PLEASE HELP US TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO HELP ALL THE DOGS THAT COME TO US. THANK YOU VERY MUCH
