Story
As a geriatrician I want to give older people in Southampton, and the surrounding areas, the best possible care. We want to be an advocate for our patients, to do this we need to be at the cutting edge of care delivery. - Dan Baylis, Consultant Medicine for Older People (MOP)
With charity investment the MOP team would like to create a department which becomes the flagship for care for older patients. Through innovative IT solutions and refurbishment works they hope to keep their patients mobile, stimulated and safe throughout their hospital stay and set them up for a good return to home.
We go to hospital to get better but the simple reality of being confined to a hospital bed can have quite devastating consequences. Muscles can deteriorate fast and this is particularly true for older people, and it can lead to serious long term repercussions.
That is why we are committed to an amazing renovation of your local hospital
Without your help elderly patients will continue to struggle with their health and independence following a prolonged stay in hospital. This is not about funding amazing treatment, it is about transforming your local hospital so that every older person that walks through our door has the best chance to recover and gain their independence.
