Story

Old age is not for the feint hearted and can often be accompanied by frailty and several limiting conditions. It can also be a very isolating and lonely time in someones life with limited mobility inhibiting peoples ability to get out and other ailments leading to restricted social connection with others.

100,000 older people in Scotland feel lonely all or most of the time. We probably all know an older person who is lonely or isolated whether that is a neighbour, family member, friend or service user but it doesnt have to be like this. Even having a weekly social visit from someone can make the world of difference to someones mental and physical health.

At Food Train were wanting to make sure that older people dont have to feel alone in old age. Often our volunteers are the only people our members see in a week but with the knowledge that someone will be there for them every week this can make all the difference. We rely on teams of dedicated volunteers that go that extra mile by helping with household jobs, delivering books through our library service and providing much needed friendly social contact and meals through our Meal Makers and befriending services.

To deliver these services we rely on the amazing generosity of the public and businesses to help our charity support older people in need across Scotlands communities. The kindness of people like yourselves helps make the daily lives of our older members safer and happier.

In order to generate the additional income required to keep our services running, we need you help so please donate what you can to help ensure we can continue to develop and reach even more lonely or isolated older people.
