Story
No one should have to choose between eating well or heating their home this winter. Glasgow's Golden Generation has been supporting older adults since 1948 and is fundraising to support older adults through the winter months.
Fuel poverty is more likely to affect older adults than any other age group, and the impact is wide reaching. It doesn't just mean it costs them a lot to heat their home, it means older adults have less money available to eat nutritiously, get out to see friends and family and can negatively affect their health.

In Glasgow fuel poverty is a particular issue for older adults this year because of the bitter winters, high ceilinged tenements and the ongoing effects of the pandemic. Over 65s are more likely to live in older homes and tend to have a fixed income. These pressures all mean winter is a real worry for the city's older population.
However, this Winter Warmer Appeal isn't just about targeting fuel poverty; GGG wants to make a difference to older adults through day care centres, a welfare service and careline, befriending services, digital services, weekly clubs and much more.
Thank you. Without your help we wouldn't be able to carry on and do what we do, so thank you.
The charity's three day centres provide a warm, safe environment as well as a hot meal for older adults every weekday. The Welfare Service and Careline help to answer any questions over 65s may have and also looks to increase their income. This could be through benefits or by decreasing their outgoings. The Welfare Team are also able to refer to Home Energy Scotland who can provide funding and advice on energy efficiency in the home. The Befriending Service and Weekly Clubs provide the warmth of friendship which reduces loneliness and isolation which is a real problem for older adults in winter.
I always look forward to our blethers; they lift my spirits, especially when I am having a bad day.
