Many people in Nuneaton are unaware that situated in the grounds of the Griff and Coton Sports and Miners Welfare club there is a War Memorial dedicated to the brave men who fought and lost their lives during the First World War. These men worked in the mines in and around Nuneaton and laid down their lives for us all so that we can have the freedom that we enjoy today.

In approximately 2005 this War memorial was desecrated by mindless individuals who stole one of the two bronze plaques (presumably for its scrap value) that depicted the names of 49 of these men.

All avenues of enquiry to trace the missing plaque were thoroughly exhausted at the time but to no avail and the vandals were never found.

The missing plaque needs replacing and the war memorial restoring to its original condition so that our community can give back these men the respect that they deserve.
