Story
#LeaveALightOn
Imagine what it would be like without your own home? Or if your son, daughter or relative found themselves homeless? Imagine the desperation that such a person feels.
The Porch has been providing freshly cooked meals, showers and a wide range of support to homeless and vulnerably housed people for over 30 years. We open six days a week to provide healthy food, practical help, companionship and opportunities for development.
Last year we provided 44,700 meals and support to 348 people in the homeless community. We provide a warm welcome, free hot meals, friendship and encouragement to around 60 people daily. We also support families struggling to survive.
The Porch is family. It is all I have got left and is run by lovely people." Porch member
We also provide green therapy, training opportunities, weekly art therapy groups and run a job club for job skills training. And we help to raise public awareness through our Porch Preserves range of vegan jams, marmalades and chutneys.
Many beneficiaries have described what the Porch is doing as lifesaving. They say that when they walk past our centre they are reassured by the light shining through the windows.
We would love you to help us by supporting our centre to stay open during Christmas. This would help to reduce our food and running costs at The Porch, allowing us to stretch our resources further to help even more vulnerable people.
£5 will buy a nutritious meal for a homeless person a day
£10 will allow us to spend on heating daily
£20 will ensure food ingredients for our Christmas and New Year season meals
£100 will support therapeutic activities for the homeless like our art therapy group
Please help us Leave A Light On. Let's make this another special Christmas!
Thank you!
