Story

On 13 January 2022 Adam Telford will fly out to Chile where he will attempt to climb Ojos Del Salado, his third mountain climb to date and the highest active volcano in the world, standing at 6893m.

Previously Adam climbed Mt Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for the Tessa Jowell foundation; on this occasion I am delighted to say that Adam intends all proceeds from his expedition to go to The Somme Nursing Home in Belfast, a unique charity nursing home in Northern Ireland for Service Veterans. Until recently, Adam had a direct connection with the Somme where his granny Peggy, a much loved resident at the Somme for 5 years, passed towards the end of last year. In memory of Peggy and in acknowledgement of everything the staff did for her during her stay, Adam has most generously dedicated all proceeds of his expedition to our Home, a fantastically kind gesture that will directly impact on the quality of life for our veteran residents. Adam has also taken the flag of The Somme Nursing Home with him to proudly unfurl at the summit. What a picture that will make!.

One of our RAF residents David Moffatt (Lancaster bomber tail gunner) couldn't contain himself on hearing what Adam was intending, stating:

I hope he has a better time of it than the last time I was at 22000 feet, the Gerry's gave me an absolutely awful time of it!.

I trust Adam will have an altogether better time of it, although it did bring a thought provoking smile to David's face as he reflected. He remains excited to hear how Adam progresses; I look forward to the updates

This really means a lot to The Somme Nursing Home and will truly make a difference to our veterans
