In 2018, I am launching my namesake global legacy foundation, The Pelé Foundation, a new charitable endeavor that will benefit organizations around the world and their dedicated efforts to empower children, specifically around poverty and education.
After retiring from football in 1977, I concentrated on using my fame to work for causes I believed in, ranging from world peace to international childrens rights and poverty alleviation.
In 1994 I was appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, a role that recognizes people that wield incredible influence to contribute to world peace and security by promoting international collaboration. For the humanitarian work I did around the world, UNESCO awarded me with the Children in Need Award in 2012.
In its first year, The Pelé Foundation is partnering with Pencils of Promise and charity: water to fulfill the Foundation's mission and support groundbreaking programs dedicated to empower children, specifically around poverty and education. Your donation to Silicon Valley Community Foundation will benefit the Pelé Foundation and help us empower children around the world.
