Story
Welcome - Bienvenidos!
Enjoy wonderful celebrations ... but please support our Christmas and New Year appeal in these incredible roller-coaster times.
Yes, we go on offering food, clothes, shelter, education, health and fun to the many children living in our refuge and, yes, we go on supporting those marginalised in the beleaguered shanty town communities near our Casa Hogar and in the isolated villages of the Andes and Amazonas.
All this, despite the fact that Peru has had the highest per capita death rate from Covid-19, despite increasing poverty, and it is always the poorest who suffer most, crumbling public health infrastructure and a deepening, dire political situation, despite the loss to Covid of so many friends of Proyecto Peru, including relatives of our sensational staff, and our much-loved house-mother Estela in whose memory the children have planted a tree in the garden of our refuge.
Despite all this, your encouragement and generosity ensure that the green safe haven that is our refuge and virtual school goes on caring for children from extreme poverty who have not been to real school for two years now, and who have hardly left the oasis that is Project Peru except to walk the eight miles to the seaside at Ancon through the dusty desert shanty towns. Jumping into the Pacific Ocean fully clothed has never been such fun!!
What a contrast with the oasis of trees, flowers, butterflies and birds where the children have many friends to play games and sports with and the chance to dance, read, cook, make music - a bonus for our amazing Peruvian colleagues and children alike. Our library gives food for thought, our secret walled garden gives delicious food for energy and a resource for learning.
So, thanks to your generosity, celebrating Christmas for everyone in our refuge will include, as always, sharing food parcels and joy with those most in need.
We are dancing for joy knowing we have your help and friendship; a huge and heartfelt thank you; this support makes a real difference and brings smiles to the faces of the children.
Warmest wishes always .
