Story

Plans to provide a new Maternity Bereavement Suite at The QEH have been given a major boost after the project was chosen as the Lynn News Charity of the Year on 31 January 2020. The appeal received half of the total votes cast in a public ballot.

And now you can help the appeal to raise the £185,000 it needs to enable the Suite to become a reality.

The idea of the Maternity Bereavement Suite is to provide a dedicated and welcoming facility for our patients and their families from our community who sadly lose their babies either during, or shortly after, birth and give them the opportunity to create precious memories.

Having an allocated suite will make such a positive difference to the experience of our parents when they are going through their most difficult time after their loss.

This redevelopment will help these families to spend time with their babies in a more homely environment, away from the maternity suite.

Please give generously to this worthy cause - together we can do it!

The QEH Charitable Fund is called 'Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal', number 21816.

Update 11/7/22:

The Butterfly Suite was the name given to our Maternity Bereavement Suite by the community. We were delighted to officially open it on Wednesday, 6th July 2022. Staff at the hospital would like to express their deepest gratitude to the generous community and donors who together raised a total of £112,105 towards this project. The Suite, which cost a total of £250,000, was paid for by a combination of local community donations plus a contribution from our hospital charity.

In her speech at the Opening Launch, Carline Shaw, chief executive at QEH, said: Your combined support and generosity has made today possible.

The hospital hopes that people will carry on with fundraising to help create a Memorial Butterfly Garden, a subsequent project recommended by the bereaved families involved in the development of the Suite.
