Story

Raise the Roof!

We are in the final stages of raising the roof of the meditation hall in the UK. Construction is underway and the last part of the roof's construction is the iconic glass pyramid. This will allow natural light to shine within- a key design feature.

Support us today and take the opportunity of a lifetime to be a part of this key stage in the Meditation Hall's construction.

The target of £22,000 is the total cost of the glass pyramid and copper flashing for the roof. Once reached we will be critically able to have a watertight building in time for the UK Winter! Join us today and Raise the Roof of this Sacred Project!

The Glass Pyramid

The intention from the start has been to include a glass pyramid in the roof over the end of the Meditation Hall, to maximise natural light. This will be an engineering feat, as it will need each piece of heavy glass to join together without ferrous metal at the joins and pinnacle. The frame will hold large sheets of special acoustic glass. Acoustic glass is in layers for temperature control and soundproofing. The areas where the glass meets timber will be clad with copper sheeting.

The Meditation Hall Project

The meditation hall has a special spiritual significance and as such has been designed uniquely. The building contains no ferrous metal, aside from within the foundation. To achieve this the main support structure of the hall has been built using sustainably sourced Glulam timber (see video below). Essentially, layers of hardwood were glued together to form the required shapes.

The meditation centre will also contain a spiritual artefact known as a 'murti' (energised statue). This is an object of spiritual significance to Samarpan Meditation. All together the resultant space within the building will be one of calm and peace. Up to 100 people will be able to meditate at any given time. Fully free of cost for anyone who would like to explore Samarpan Meditation and escape the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.

With sustainability and renewable energy in mind, the building will make use of Air Source Heat Pumps, use underfloor heating, be adequately ventilated and also ultimately be solar-powered.

Samarpan Meditation

Samarpan Meditation is a simple practice taught free of charge around the world. Founded by his holiness Shree Shivkrupanand Swami, who spent many years meditating with different yogis within the Himalayas. The vision, which began in 1994, is to bring this Samarpan Meditation from the Himalayas into society. It is a spiritual practice based on the direct personal experience of the benefits of regular meditation.

Thank you

We would like to offer our gratitude to all who have supported this project so far. The progress we are seeing is a direct representation of the generosity of many individuals around the UK and also internationally.
