Music is a very big part of our school life, and our music department particularly is a constant buzz of young people performing together, improving their skills, and growing with confidence. I believe that music feeds the soul, and in times like these we really do need the uplifting support of music like no other.

The quality of teaching and learning in our Preparatory School at Ratcliffe is excellent, and music is no exception. The standard of performance is going from strength to strength and with this comes a responsibility to ensure our children not only have the opportunities to nurture and grow their talents, performing at informal concerts and school events, but also have high quality instruments to perform on when playing in school.

Whilst we are lucky to have pianos in each practice room at Ratcliffe, we have identified the need for a concert grand piano for the Newman Hall that is suitable and of a high enough calibre that students can develop their ability to play with different tones and dynamics. This will enable students to perform recitals, allow us to invite musicians into school to run masterclasses and to even create a musical concert series; all things we are unable to facilitate with our current piano. However, it is a tremendous investment to buy a grand piano, especially one of a high enough quality for recitals and concerts, and the music budget is not designed to stretch that far, so we look to our parents, friends and supporters to help us to realise this.

We know that due to Covid-19 restrictions we will be unable to share our concerts with an audience at the present time, albeit we continue to enjoy bubble concerts! However, if we act now, then hopefully in the coming months we can make an upgraded grand piano a reality that we can then share with you in person.
