Story

The Spring hopes to reopen on 17 May 2021. We are now raising funds to ensure we can reopen, hold events and activities that bring our community back together safely and support The Spring survive into the future.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic The Spring has worked to provide events and activities and to be here for our community. Online, in person (when allowed), over the phone and in and around Havant, we have tried to keep people connected via cultural experiences. And we're not done yet!

Our Revitalising The Spring campaign will help us to recover from the impact of Covid-19, so we can continue to deliver great cultural experiences for everyone.

In 2020 our country faced an enormous challenge. It has not been easy for anyone. We were all advised to stay apart, we have lived in fear of catching a devastating virus and we have missed the day-to-day interactions that make life better. At The Spring we believe in the ability of cultural and shared experiences to provide moments of joy and support. We want to continue to do this into the future and believe it will be more important than ever when we reopen.

Throughout 2020 and for the first months of 2021 we have worked behind the scenes hard to counter the negative impact the pandemic on our organsiation and our industry. We submitted multiple fundraising applications, taken advantage of the government's job retention scheme and were very lucky to receive some funding from Arts Council England, the government's Culture Recovery Fund and donations from our ticket holders (thank you so much!).This means The Spring is able to survive where other arts organisations sadly have not. Nevertheless, the pandemic has had a devastating affect on our finances, which will affect the work we can deliver on our return.

We now hope to raise £12,000 so we can rebuild and revitalise our activities as safely and quickly as possible when we are allowed and it is safe to do so. We want to return to delivering extraordinary events for you and we hope you will want to continue to invest in the future of culture in Havant.

Without your support The Spring faces a bleak future. Although we think can survive the next year, the essence and heart of our organisation will diminish. When we reopen we will be forced to reduce our services, shortening our opening hours and reducing the number of events we hold. We will have to increase our prices, present performances with less edge and reduce scope of the workshops and activities we offer. We will have to stop resourcing the museum and reduce the number and quality of our exhibitions. We will have to reduce the work we do with vulnerable communities and groups and we will be less able to offer the unique themed or curated events that set us apart from other arts centres. We can't bear the thought of any of this as the variety and quality of The Spring's work is what makes this place so special.

Please help us bring back The Spring we love!

By raising £12,000 now we can ensure our survival. We can develop new ideas and begin to create work that reflects on the last year. Importantly, when it's safe to do so we can start to bring our community again to laugh, to cry, to connect and to recover.

Please donate now to help us achieve our target. and support us in an uncertain future.

With huge thanks from all of us

The Spring is Havant Borough’s Arts Centre and Museum. We present live events (including theatre, music, comedy, spoken word and more), films, Event Cinema, exhibitions, workshops and more. We work in our building in Havant and across the region with our busy family-orientated outreach programme. Great Experiences for Everyone We want everyone who comes to one of our events to have a great time. Our organisation belongs to our community and audiences and everyone is always welcome. A Small Place Where Big Things Happen We are one of the few integrated arts and heritage centres in the UK and use this position to create innovative programmes to inspire and engage our audiences and the community. We create and curate experiences that change the way people see the world; to enhance wellbeing and make our community proud.
