Story

The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra 40th Anniversary North American Tour 2020

The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra will celebrate its 40th anniversary as tradition bearers for Scottish music by touring the USA and Canada. Leaving from Edinburgh on 28th March we will be visiting concert halls in New Hampshire, Maine, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Quebec.

This tour will feature not only fiddles, but flutes, cellos, and our very own piper. A touring party of 50 musicians, we will be ambassadors for Scotland, developing strong social and cultural links, widening access to traditional Scottish music, and promoting one of Scotlands most recognisable cultural exports.

In addition to performing 7 concerts in a 12 day period we will lead workshops with young local musicians. Members of local communities with physical, mental or behavioural constraints will be invited to attend our rehearsals, helping to widen the access to music for those who find it difficult to attend formal concerts. Joining us on stage will be local pipe bands.

In return for donations towards our travel costs we are delighted to offer the following rewards:

£20 - a CD signed by The SFO conductor, Blair Parham;

£50 - a signed CD and your name in our tour programme (only available for a limited time);

£100 - a signed CD, your name in our tour programme and two tickets to one of our concerts of your choice;

£200 - a signed CD, your name in the tour programme and four tickets to one of our concerts of your choice;

£500 - all of the above plus four backstage passes to meet the orchestra at the interval;

£1000 - the opportunity to name a new March or 2-Step written for the orchestra.

(Exchange rate available here.)

RCN SC010753
The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra is one of Scotland’s foremost traditional music organisations. The Orchestra was formed in 1980, deriving its origins from Fiddlers’ Rallies which were – and are – held throughout the country. After one of these Rallies, a group of enthusiasts met to consider the formation of an orchestra which would draw its members from a’ the airts and would form a cohesive, vigorously rehearsed group of musicians.
