Story

Help us create the next generation of climate leaders, thinkers and doers

At The Climate Group we know that it is not always easy getting started in a new career. In fact, it can feel like climbing a mountain. For this reason, we have always been pleased and fortunate to welcome smart and enthusiastic volunteers as interns.

Over the years, volunteers have helped us deliver our programs and events, while gaining valuable skills and experience in return. Many of our interns have gone on to successful careers in a range of organisations and sectors.

However, we also recognize that often volunteering is just not an option.

For many, the high-cost of living in global cities like London, New York, New Delhi or Beijing, where The Climate Group is based, means that volunteer internships often are not financially feasible.

This is why in 2019 were establishing a new paid intern program, starting in our London office.

The program will provide a limited number of six-month placements within our programmatic and support teams, with interns paid at the London living wage.

The aim of the program is simple: we want everyone to have the same opportunity to work with us, regardless of background or circumstances. We also want to ensure that our interns reflect the diversity of the communities and countries that we work in.

Supporting young professionals in this way is the right thing to do.

Its right because getting ahead should not be determined by where you come from or who you know.

And its right because we need to be investing properly in the next generation of climate leaders, thinkers and doers, who will ultimately determine if we solve this century's greatest challenge.

To help raise funds for the new intern program, a group of 14 Climate Group staff will be undertaking the UK's iconic Three Peak Challenge in late June scaling the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) in under 24 hours.

Given the mountains that young professionals often have to climb early in their career, the Three Peaks felt like an appropriate challenge, and even more so when you consider the impact that climate change will have on this important environment.

We hope that you can support us with our challenge and enable us in turn to grow the next generation of climate leaders, thinkers and doers that the world needs.
