The Thyroid Trust has been set up by a team of thyroid patients who have been organising support and information events in London, with leading medics, since 2010.

In 2017 we were offered funding to create the new charity for everyone affected by thyroid disorders, including friends, family and interested professionals. Our Trustees are patients, leading professionals and supporters.

We quickly began to extend our activities by providing detailed briefing papers for debates in the House of Commons and House of Lords and following up on these debates by working with other interested organisations to produce a major report for the Department of Health which was published in October 2018.

Since then we have been working closely with NHS England and our partner organisations, including the specialists' professional body, the British Thyroid Association, to help clarify guidelines for a specialist treatment for hypothyroidism which some patients depend on.

We have launched a YouTube channel with videos of top medics talking about different aspects of thyroid health and patients talking about their experiences and issues. Patients have told us that having a thyroid condition can feel very isolating and that the support and information we provide makes a big difference.

We have been collating patient experiences in a new directory of patient stories that is available for use by researchers and policy makers and includes case studies for journalists.

We have attended professional conferences and joined important networks to build our knowledge and contacts. We have quickly established a strong reputation as an organisation which is responsible and effective, as well as caring and passionate.

We recently secured support from Transport for London for our event programme.

Our website and social media channels are increasingly popular and we are constantly building up our online and offline activities. We believe there is a great need for improved care for thyroid patients and greater public and professional recognition of the impact thyroid disorders can have on patients' lives. It is our mission to address that need.

We are determined to make things better for people affected by thyroid disease. We provide information and support events with leading medics and patients voices. We raise awareness of thyroid health issues and strive to improve standards of care.
