Story

At Velos Youth, our mission is to support unaccompanied children and young people who have been displaced to restart and rebuild their lives.

The Velos Youth Centre was opened in May 2017 with the ultimate goal of creating a safe space for all children and young people on the move, aged 16-21.

The youth centre is in the heart of Athens and provides a range of emotional, material and specialist support services, as well as facilitating access to existing state and non-government services.

We strive for a future founded on human dignity and equality, in which holistic care reflects the unique needs of each child and young person, focusing on immediate safety and a smooth transition to adulthood.

Today there are 5,000 unaccompanied children in Greece. 1,000 are homeless.

Over the next 12 days we will follow the story of 17 year old Haji as he arrives alone in Athens and begins to restart his life.

Like thousands of others, Haji will face serious daily challenges; homelessness, cold winter temperatures, and long asylum processes.

Imagine having to face these struggles in the context of a global pandemic. The current lockdown in Athens has suspended many state and non-governmental supports, leaving people more in need than ever this winter.

Velos Youth continues to empower unaccompanied children and young people like Haji who have been displaced to restart and rebuild their lives in Athens.

Support Haji, and thousands of others like him, by donating for essential items that will help see through this winter.

EURO 3 = Earphones enable private online classes and important private calls

EURO 5 = Phone charger

EURO 5 = Hat, scarf and gloves

EURO 10 = Sleeping bag

EURO 10 = Mobile data for one month for online classes and staying connected

EURO 10 = Covid-19 Hygiene care pack (x10 face masks, x2 hand sanitizers and x1 soap)

EURO 13 = Winter jacket

EURO 35 = Warm dry winter boots and a pack of winter socks

Your donations will help Velos Youth continue to distribute material aid weekly throughout winter and make life safer, warmer and brighter for unaccompanied children and young people in Athens.

We understand that these are difficult financial times for everyone. Help us share this campaign and raise awareness of the realities so many displaced youth face in Greece.
