Story
Help us stop holiday hunger in Bristol this summer.
This summer holidays, FareShare South West are gearing up to provide DOUBLE the food of last year- getting food for 40,000 meals to holiday projects working with children at risk of experiencing hunger this summer. Working with delivery partners across the city and the Feeding Bristol initiative, we want to make real change happen.
We know we can access the food, and we've got the volunteers- we are asking the Bristol public to help us step up to the plate and support our appeal.
Every little helps- with each pound donated, FareShare South West can provide 4 meals to a child in need.
When term finishes, so do Free School Meals for eligible children. For some families, the 7 week long summer holiday can be a difficult time to make ends meet. In Bristol and the South West, children are at risk of going hungry once the safety net of school support is removed.
The extra strain of paying for activities during the holidays, as well as child care for working parents can be difficult. The effects of Holiday Hunger go well beyond the holidays, with children arriving back at school for the new term undernourished, tired and unable to concentrate in class.
We want to make sure that children in Bristol and the South West have access to good food to fuel a fun summer.
Help us to do more.
£7 could enable us to provide 28 meals for children at a summer project.
£12 could enable us to provide lunch for one child on every day of the school holidays.
£30 could enable us to provide breakfast for 24 children for a whole week.
Donate what you can today and help us #ActiveAte the school holidays this summer.
Its had a massive impact on children. Before, kids would run around all day and without a full and healthy meal in their stomachs, would end up lethargic or irritable by the end of the day. Now the meals we cook together sustain them for the whole day keeping them happy and making friends, whilst also active until hometime. Plus, we know its one less meal for parents to worry about having to provide. Katie Hanchard-Goodwin, Manager at Bristol Playbus
