Story

When lockdown hit in March we helped hundreds of people off the streets and into emergency hotel accommodation, where we continued to support them throughout their stay. In Westminster, over 260 people were helped into more permanent accommodation after the hotels a truly remarkable achievement.

For some this move is the end of a long journey of leaving the streets behind and living independently. Many others still have that journey ahead of them as, although they are in safe accommodation now, they are still dealing with the traumas and challenges that lead them to sleep rough. Our staff remain in touch with them and our centre remains open to ensure they are getting the support they need, which is vital to ensure they dont return to the streets.

This Christmas will be different for all of us. We dont know yet if we will be able to see our family and friends as usual. For many of the people we are supporting, although they will be warm and safe, they may still feel isolated and alone, still rebuilding lost relationships or finding new, healthier ones. There will also be many who are looking forward to this Christmas with joy at being in work, accommodation and with support. And of course there are still people who are facing the prospect of a winter on the streets.

Join our wonderful local businesses in supporting people rough sleeping this winter.

£250.00 could support someone to begin volunteering within our services, helping sustain their independence in the long term

£500.00 could support a week of someone receiving support from our psychologist and staying in our temporary accommodation and over winter

£1,000.00 could support someone to leave the streets of the West End, by providing the vital care and support they need to overcome the barriers that are holding them back from living independently.

£2,000.00 could ensure someones mental health condition is finally recognised and supported, through our wellbeing acitivites and access to long term specalist support.

£5,000.00 could provide access to volunteering and employability sessions on our site as well as 1:1 intensive support, to build confidence, independence and connections in order to sustain a life away from the streets.

About the charity

The Connection at St Martin’s is here to be with people as they recover from life on the streets and move on to meaningful, fulfilling futures and a place to call home. We work with people, not for them, and put every individual person at the centre of their recovery.
