Story
When lockdown hit in March we helped hundreds of people off the streets and into emergency hotel accommodation, where we continued to support them throughout their stay. In Westminster, over 260 people were helped into more permanent accommodation after the hotels a truly remarkable achievement.
For some this move is the end of a long journey of leaving the streets behind and living independently. Many others still have that journey ahead of them as, although they are in safe accommodation now, they are still dealing with the traumas and challenges that lead them to sleep rough. Our staff remain in touch with them and our centre remains open to ensure they are getting the support they need, which is vital to ensure they dont return to the streets.
This Christmas will be different for all of us. We dont know yet if we will be able to see our family and friends as usual. For many of the people we are supporting, although they will be warm and safe, they may still feel isolated and alone, still rebuilding lost relationships or finding new, healthier ones. There will also be many who are looking forward to this Christmas with joy at being in work, accommodation and with support. And of course there are still people who are facing the prospect of a winter on the streets.
