Story
Over the past 40 years CASA of Madison County has had the privledge of helping thousands of individuals remain safe and independent as they age in place. Starting as a grass roots effort, the organization is now able to help thousands of individuals each year. This is made possible thanks to the numerous donors and volunteers who have put in time and energy throughout the years. Each time our volunteers go out, a life is changed!
One life changed was Ms. J who called on us in January of 2019 after having a spinal injury and was no longer able to walk. She was trapped in her home and was afraid of what might happen in the event of an emergency. In May, the volunteers arrived to install her wheelchair ramp. She was overjoyed! She said the first thing she did was just roll down the ramp to the driveway, just because she could. FREEDOM! She now takes daily trips to her mailbox just like a "normal" person would, she says. Her family appreciates the help too, as now they do not have to fear what will happen when they are unable to be with her.
CASA services help our clients, their families, and our community. Aging in place can save tax payers approximately $70,000 a year, the cost of a Medicaid nursing home bed in the state of Alabama. CASA provides our services for approximately $1,200 a year. CASA relies 100% on the generosity of individuals, and does not recieve any funding from insurance reimbursements, federal or state budgeted dollars. Donors like you are what make it possible for CASA to continue to care for those who have cared for us.
