Story

A challenge is something that tests your skills, strengths, and abilities. It is a situation that needs the focus of your mental and physical efforts. But everyone has different skills, strengths, and abilities, so what one person finds challenging, another may not. So, we are handing it over to you to choose your own challenge.

We have placed a few varied ideas below just to encourage your creativity, but this will be your challenge, your way. Complete it in one hour, one day or across a month. Do it as an individual or as a team. Think about what you will find challenging and push yourself to accomplish it.

Live stream - This could be a gaming event, DJ set, your musical abilities, your singing or baking skills. Whatever you decide to do, think about you can make this a challenge. 24-hour event? Wearing oven gloves? Live stream, add your link and ask people to donate.

Lifting - Did you know an average weight of an African Bush elephant is 6,000kg. Ever tried to lift one? No? Well, if you pick your target weight, average this over a number of reps, and voila! You have 'lifted' the weight of an elephant! Get family, friends, colleagues, and team-mates involved as a bit of fun. (We used an elephant as an example, but you can choose any animal, form of transportation, building or landmark that you like)

Squat, Sit, Push or Press - Pick a number that you want to achieve. Choose between squats, sit ups, push ups, press ups, a mixture of all four, or another physical challenge of your choice. Let everyone know your aim and how you plan to achieve it. Ask people to donate and update them on your progress.

Walk, Jog or Run - Choose a distance to complete across the course of the month, set yourself timed target i.e. walking an hour a day, jogging three times a week, or try to smash your previous personal best. Whichever you decide to do, share your story, ask your supporters to donate, and then keep them updated on your progress.

Cost of a Coffee - Cut out your daily coffee and help raise funds by donating the cost of your normal caffeine tipple. It doesn't have to be coffee; it could be the office cakes, your canteen tuck shop spends, daily chocolate bar or even the cost of a take-away lunch/meal deal. Challenge your friends, family and/or work colleagues to get involved in too.

Don't see anything you like? Whilst we have given a few basic ideas, to suit all ages and abilities, the choice of challenge really is yours! Do something out of your comfort zone. Fulfil a lifelong ambition. Get talking and see what would work for you and your friends. Check out what events are around or get in touch with our team to ask.

Choose your own challenge and help raise much needed funds to support children and young people, who have experienced the death of a parent, that served in the armed forces. £100 pays for five children to receive a meal voucher at Remembrance, or it will enable four children to have a hand selected gift to open on their birthday, or it may go towards an educational grant to help with development. Don't forget that if you raise £50, we will send you a free Scottys Morale patch. Hit the £100 mark and a free running vest or t-shirt will be on its way to you.

Here's how it works:

1) Click 'Start Fundraising' and create your page

2) Update the description with your chosen challenge details. Let people know what you are doing, when and how it will happen, who will be joining you, and why you are doing it.

3) Tell your friends and family about your challenge and ask them to sponsor or help to spread the word. Dont forget to tag Scottys Little Soldiers and use the hashtag #ChooseYourOwnChallenge.

4) Share your progress with your supporters and keep them updated.

If you raise £50 you will receive a free Scotty's morale patch. Raise £100 and get a free running vest or t-shirt.

Struggling to fundraise?

You can still get involved, even if you don't feel in a position to ask for donations. In the past, some people have popped a small donation on to their own fundraising page just as a contribution. Remember sharing your challenge, the reason you are doing it and then tagging the charity, also helps to spread awareness of Scotty's Little Soldiers

If you're still keen to fundraise but struggling to get sponsorship, why not take a look at our digital fundraising information pack which is full of useful tips and information.
