The coronavirus pandemic has placed us all in an unprecedented situation, but as a healthcare charity we are dedicated to supporting the NHS in its hour of need.
From now on we will be fundraising for medical equipment and resources wherever they are most urgently required to tackle the coronavirus outbreak. Together we can face this challenge and help provide NHS staff with the equipment they need to deliver lifesaving care.
The pandemic will see a sharp rise in the numbers of patients being admitted with breathing difficulties and will put even more pressure on already overstretched respiratory equipment throughout the UK. We are liaising with hospitals to find out what they need as an immediate priority. So far this includes apnoea alarms, saturation monitors, AIRVO 2 units and new ventilators.
Although the overall risk of COVID-19 is lower for children than it is for other age groups, some children will be especially affected by the virus. This is because they have underlying health conditions that mean their lungs are weakened or their immune systems less able to fight it off. We will be providing specialist equipment to help care for these young patients.
We are also looking at funding extra mental health resources to offer support during these difficult times.
