Story

For many of the staff who work at Crossways Business Park, Darent Valley is their local hospital as well as our neighbour. It cares for them, their families and their friends should they require medical attention. Valley Hospital Charity is the official NHS Charity that supports the work of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust based at Darent Valley Hospital and helps the Trust to continue to be able to offer the most up-to-date break-through technologies and innovative services, despite the stretched NHS budget. This means we can continue to receive the best available care at our local hospital.

In the past 2 years, Valley Hospital Charity has purchased equipment to support the lives of babies on the Special Care Baby Unit, as well as a web application that allows ward staff to send videos of baby to the parents when they can't be with them around the clock to ensure them they are being well looked after. A new FEES (Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) machine has offered a new service at the Trust to be able to monitor patients swallowing capacity, which following a stroke or cancer can quickly assess if the patient is safe to return to eating solid food. A new 3D imaging tool to detect breast cancer at the earliest stages, will ensure the best chance of a full recovery. The Charity has also helped enhance the Hospital environment, furnishing a counselling room for children, decorating the waiting room in ITU so loved ones have some distraction at a stressful time, and funded some wall art in the birthing rooms on the Maternity Wards. The Charity has supported in many more projects and areas of the Hospital too.

The Hospital touches all our lives and the NHS staff work so hard to do their best for their patients, so let us do our bit to give them the resources to provide the best care.
