Story

Partner with us to help start a Dairy Farm in a remote village situated in the hills of Nallabanda, Chittoor, in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Company Village, was established in 1940 and is occupied by people from the Yanadhi tribal community. There are about 20 families living there. Over the last few years we had the privilege of partnering with New Horizons Christian Fellowship (NHCF) in Vellore and an amazing young couple Seenu and Glory, to provide schooling for all of the children in the village and the first electricity supply with the purchase of solar panels.

The plan now is to help establish a Dairy Farm in the village with 6 cows. The project aims to empower uneducated women from the village through holistic education and training. This will cover a wide range of skills needed to start up and operate a sustainable business model including literacy, numeracy, financial management, health and welfare etc. After the project is established, the sale of the milk will provide ongoing employment for 5 women who will continue to maintain all aspects of the Dairy Farm.

Update - January 2022

At the end of September 2021, all the preparation for the groundwork were in place with a program of work for the grass planting and cowshed construction to be completed in the following weeks. Sadly due to unprecedented torrential rainfall and flooding along with further disruption due to the pandemic, the work that was planned could not proceed. While these further delays have been frustrating, the good news is that ground conditions improved sufficiently towards the end of December so that the groundwork and grass planting could finally be completed. We are able to share some photos now which show the work that has been done.

The grass seed takes 70 to 90 days to be ready for grazing and in the meantime, the cowshed will be built. The dairy cows and calves will be purchased when the farm is ready to open, which we hope will be sometime in April, assuming there are no further unforeseen interruptions!

Update - May 2022

On the 12th May we were able to have a video call with Yohan and Seenu to get an update on the progress of the Dairy Farm Project. The planting of the grass seed has been successful but the construction of the cowshed has been delayed. This is due to the fact that the local government are currently undertaking a survey of the village to facilitate the distribution of land to the families that live there. Until the survey is completed, no construction is permitted.

The good news is that a piece of land has been found very close to the village which is available for rent. A temporary cowshed can be constructed on this land which will be suitable in the short term until the permanent construction of the cowshed in the village can proceed. Once the agreement for the land rental is in place, the temporary shed construction and purchase of cows can go ahead.

The great news is that despite the various delays and challenges they have faced, the whole of the village and the 5 ladies who have been trained to run the Dairy Farm are very excited for this project to start.

Update - July 2022

We have a cow shed!! Construction of the temporary cow shed is now complete. Arrangements are now in hand for the purchase of the dairy cows which will enable the farm to get up and running!

Thank you again for all the amazing support for this project and for helping us get towards our target of £4,000. Despite all of the delays we are now very close to seeing this life changing project become a reality.

Much love, David & the HHCC Leadership Team
