Story

Elizabeth Burton-Phillips lost Nick, one of her identical twin sons, to heroin addiction in 2004. Having struggled to find support for her own family during this harrowing time, Elizabeth founded DrugFAM in 2006 with the sole aim of ensuring that no family, friends or carers are left living in isolation, fear and ignorance of any local & national support. From humble beginnings Elizabeth has led DrugFAM to become one of the most nationally respected charities for the support of families affected by addiction.

Since Nick's tragic death, Elizabeth has worked continuously to raise awareness of the harm caused to families by drug and alcohol addiction and to influence policy and practice so that the needs of families, in their own right, are better recognised and met.

In October 2020 Elizabeth will be celebrating her 70th birthday. To recognise this landmark event she hopes to raise significant funds by running a Power of 7! fundraising campaign over the course of her 70th year. She will be inviting friends and colleagues to donate multiples of £7 to DrugFAM, i.e. a monthly donation of £7. Alternatively you may wish to set up your own fundraising events with the aim of raising a multiple of £7 as your focus.

DrugFAM's helpline runs 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and receives over 10,000 calls a year, supporting 3,000 families. We currently receive no government funding, but with your help we hope to increase that to 7,000 families and recruit 3 new Family Support Workers.
