From 1 August 10 October, we are challenging you, our community, to join forces and collectively travel the distance between Newcastle Universitys four campuses a grand total of 6997 miles via sustainable methods.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable travel, as well as having some fun, you can log multiple activities throughout the challenge with no distance too big or small. From family walks in a park to running on treadmill, swimming in the ocean or biking on Zwift, we need your help to get us over the virtual finish line.
The challenge is free, all you need to do is register and start logging your miles by joining our Strava group we will be with you every step of the way!
By taking part in this challenge you will be helping raise money for the Newcastle University's ONE Planet Fund that will support the University's mission to tackle climate change and design sustainable trans-disciplinary responses needed to address intensifying global change.
The ONE Planet Fund will provide the catalyst and prove pivotal in our future efforts across Newcastle University in taking action on climate change and sustainable consumption.
This will include establishing ONE Planet PhD Scholarships, the new ONE Planet Doctoral Training Programme, the recently launched ONE Planet Hub, development of the ONE Planet NuCORE for Climate and Environmental Resilience, and set up ONE Planet Research Grants to support our research staff.
Under the ONE Planet banner, Newcastle University will create a unique scientific environment where internationally leading scientists work in an interdisciplinary context, with cutting edge facilities and expert practitioners to develop and implement solutions to global challenges.
