We rescue and rehome, spay/neuter & chip, stray, feral and abandoned cats. We promote neutering and chipping providing a discounted program to the public when possible. We provide help/advice to the public about their cats welfare and behaviour. We offer a free scanning service for any found pets.

Story

Gabby was one of five feral kittens rescued from the roadside (with their feral mum) in May 2023.

One of the litter was adopted this year but we still have four girls left and all are adorable.

Little Gabby has always been the smallest and along with her sister needed a polyp removing earlier this year from her throat.

She recovered well until recently I felt something was not right and had intended to take her to the vets after the bank holiday. This was taken from my hands when I checked her on bank Holiday Monday morning to find she was exhibiting signs of ataxia in her front legs and her balance was "not right".

I immediately took her to the emergency department at Wear Referrals and she was admitted. There were lots of possibilities of what could cause these symptoms but yesterday an MRI scan revealed a nasty case of middle ear infections in both ears (both filled with pus) and she also has an abscess on her brain which is pressing against her spinal cord. In short were she a human, she would be dead.

She is now on very strong intravenous antibiotics for the abscess and her ears will need draining too. It is possible she has more polls in the pus but only a repeat MRI (or likely a CT) scan will show this.

Scans alone are not cheap and take up a lot of money, on top of that a double operation to drain the pus will not be cheap and of course she is in ICU.

She is such a friendly loving cat, it seems like it would be unfair to "write her off" at this stage.
