On 14th March, Queens’ House will be aiming to complete a 24-hour runathon. Between us, we will aim to run non-stop on a treadmill in order to raise money for Olpalagilagi School in Kenya, where a number of Queens' girls, past and present, have visited and volunteered.
We are focusing our funds on helping young women with their education, in a setting where this can have a huge impact. Gresham’s does magnificent work in Kenya and we have other charity links there, but on this occasion we want to focus on girls, as we are proud of our sisterhood and hope to show how powerful it can be. Ms Gathercole is taking the pupils there again this summer, and the Queens’ girls on the trip will be liaising and identifying where the funds will be best used.
Between the girls, staff, parents and OGs, we will be running non-stop from 7am on Friday 14th to 7am on Saturday 15th. A treadmill will be set up in the Queens’ common room for the girls and staff to complete the event. Each run will be added to the total distance. Parents and staff can pitch in too by uploading any running they have completed within the 24 hours. If you want to participate but cannot make it into the house, you can still run wherever you are. You can log your distance in Strava in our running club – just look for us "Queens’ House" and enter your run! It doesn't have to be during the precise 24 hours if you're working: we will open the window for remote runners from Friday until Sunday. We would like as many ex-Queens’ girls as possible to join us too!
We would be grateful for any support you could give, through either donations or taking part. And do take a photo and send it to us. We'd love to see where and how you're joining in - particularly if you manage to get together for the event - a Zoom call, a holiday jog, a meet-up in London for a park run, or on the North Norfolk coast - you choose!
