Story

As patron of Box Clever, I am asking for your support to help the company create and tour a brand new adaptation of Jekyll & Hyde to young people in schools across the country.

I've known Box Clever for many years and have first-hand experience of the huge impact their work has on children and young people around the UK. This is why I'm supporting the campaign to raise funds for Box Clever's brand new adaptation of Jekyll & Hyde to reach over 10,000 young people. Please show your support to the next generation of actors, writers, directors and technicians by donating.

-Tom Burke, actor and Box Clever Patron

You can now access the first in a 3-part series of interviews with Tom Burke on our vimeo page: Tom Burke 3-part series each interview segment costs £3 to access.

We believe in the power of theatre to change lives..

Can you help us reach 10,000 young people in disadvantaged areas across the UK?

We want to take Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde to young people who wouldn't normally get the chance to experience high quality, professional theatre.

With your help, we will involve young people, schools and venues in all stages of the creation of a professional theatre production, from script development to the final production and tour. We have chosen Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde because it contains many issues that are highly relevant to todays society. It is about coming to terms with who you are and who you want to be in the world you live in and the challenges that face you.

Participation in arts and cultural activities play a key role in improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people

Worryingly, statistics have shown that:

8 out of 10 teachers in a National Education Union survey said that the mental health of schoolchildren had deteriorated in the last two years with rising reports of anxiety, self-harm, depression and suicides

Children from low-income families are 4 times more likely to experience mental health problems than children from higher-income families

Evaluations demonstrate that young people are inspired and motivated by our work. It influences positive attitudinal and behavioural change, provides a voice for young people to express what matters to them, enhances academic performance, removes barriers to accessing live performance, improves inclusion and champions diversity.

Last year we performed to 56,526 young people and accompanying adults in 213 schools and 7 venues, giving 281 performances and 193 workshops. With your help we can continue to work toward our goal of engaging 100,000 children and young people with our work and look forward to the next 25 years of Box Clever Theatre.
