Story

Educating children, strengthening families and building community. That's how Kingsley House has positively impacted the lives of more than half-million individuals over for the last 124 years. Your generosity is needed to continue our Legacy of Service during this current pandemic!

Why Support Kingsley House?

Now more than ever, Kingsley House is called upon to serve our community. In the face of COVID-19, Kingsley House has adapted and modified programming to include virtual early childhood education, health monitoring and food delivery for vulnerable seniors, and mental health support for families, all while bridging the digital divide. We have also grown our footprint to serve an additional 1,000 residents in two neighborhood communities, providing vital resources to these families.

The pandemic has provided opportunities to strengthen and expand our impact. The stay at home order resulted in a deepening of our relationships with the parents of our early childhood students. Each day, our teachers worked in tandem with parents in virtual classrooms to ensure the continued healthy growth and development of their children. As allowed by the state and Office of Head Start, Kingsley now offers a combination of virtual and in-person classes to support families.

As many families face job loss, this crisis was also the impetus to expand our workforce development efforts to the broader community. Kingsley Connections assists individuals in preparing for living wage careers. Through an individualized approach parents are supported as they navigate career pathways and overcome barriers to employment. In the last few months, 24 adults have successfully completed training, passed the national certification and secured employment as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) with area hospitals. Additional efforts are underway to facilitate training for participants in carpentry, electrical and pipe welding programs as well as other industries offering living wage careers with advancement opportunities.

The challenges of the pandemic have also provided the opportunity for Kingsley House to enhance our offerings to medically fragile adults, seniors and veterans to include virtual and home-based services. These vulnerable populations have been isolated in their homes without access to in-person programs. Virtual programming, wellness checks and home visits at a safe distance have been offered to prevent social isolation, a decrease in overall mental and physical health, and an increased risk of unnecessary hospitalization. There is a tremendous need to continue to deliver these services.

A gift today to Kingsley House allows us to continually adapt and respond to unforeseeable pandemic challenges and supports our mission of delivering life-transforming programs and services to more than 8,000 people annually.
