Story
Dogura is home to many public-serving institutions run by the church, including two schools, a hospital, and most of the Dioceses central administration. The high school there is one of only two church secondary schools in the country which attracts students from across Papua New Guinea. The hospital treats a range of needs, from young mothers and paediatric illnesses to those suffering with tuberculosis.
Transport from the Dogura plateau to Alotau, the nearest major town, currently involves descending from the plateau to a boat ride across the sea, then up to a two-hour wait for the bus a truck from Awaiama which may not arrive at all. This situation makes it difficult to reach people or get supplies and is rapidly becoming untenable. Without a more reliable means of transportation, the Anglican mission in Dogura may have little choice but to uproot and move to a more accessible location leaving their history and heritage behind.
Your generosity is vital to nurture the work of these places and make them flourish. With a car they can reach other towns and villages more easily, get the supplies they need for their ministry, and continue the valuable work on the Dogura plateau.
