The Virtual European Tour Challenge

We would normally be welcoming our French friends from Cité Scolaire Rene Pellet to RNC, and would later visit them in Lyon. With that not possible this year, we decided to take on a virtual trip by walking, running and cycling the distance instead.

Story

Usually at this time of year we would be welcoming our French friends from Cité Scolaire Rene Pellet to RNC, and we would have visited them later in Lyon as part of our Erasmus research project into wellbeing for people with visual impairments. Although we can't visit each other in person this year, we thought we would travel to Lyon virtually with a bit of leg-power from RNC staff, students and families.

Participants are asked to take a daily walk, run or cycle and then submit a record of the kilometres they have covered that day.

On Sunday 17 May 2020, Team RNC made it, ahead of schedule, to Cité Scolaire Rene Pellet in Lyon. So rather than stop there, the team decided to march on to its Spanish exchange location, Madrid.

On Friday 22 May 2020, Team RNC concluded its epic journey from Hereford to Lyon and from Lyon to Madrid. However, after a break in the Spanish sunshine, the team didnt want to leave it at that. So a refreshed and ready group of staff and students have mobilised again and are pushing on to RNCs third exchange destination, Berlin. The Team will also make their way back home to Hereford from Germany and it is hoped they will make it back in time for the end of the College Summer Term, Friday 3 July 2020.

Participants are asked to take a daily walk, run or cycle and then submit a record of the kilometres they have covered that day. The daily cumulative total will take us along the route back to Hereford from Madrid via Berlin.

The temporary closure of both the College and thePoint4 leisure facility has had a dramatic effect on RNCs fundraising ability. So if you are able to make a donation or sponsor a member of staff or a student through this fun, active challenge, we would be enormously grateful. Thank you.
