Lichfield District Council has launched an appeal to raise funds to support people and communities across Lichfield District that have been affected by COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Lichfield District is a caring community and as COVID-19 causes more people to stay at home, people naturally want to help others.
Across the district many people are being advised to self-isolate themselves from their communities to limit the spread of the virus. This inevitably presents a number of challenges.
Many voluntary and community groups who support vulnerable members of our community are no longer able to continue with their invaluable groups and activities, which provide lunches, shopping trips, support and social interaction. Plus many of their volunteers are in the over 70 age group so this has placed further strains on the voluntary and community sector across the district.
Organisations are naturally wanting to do more to help their community and are looking at how they can continue to support their members in different ways, such as delivering meals to people who might not be able to prepare them themselves, providing befriending services or developing on-line content. Many voluntary and community organisations could really do with some extra support at this difficult time. Some people may be able to offer their time though volunteering and others may be able to make a financial contribution to help them.
This fund aims to support local people who need support during these very challenging times.
As this appeal is for the district of Lichfield, every penny raised will be spent locally, supporting organisations who make such a huge difference to the lives of some of our most vulnerable residents.
