Story

I have been a member of No Panic for 11 years and I have been helped a lot from the helpliners, I have been on a telephone recovery group and had telephone mentoring which helped me a great deal. I have come a long way with the support from No Panic. My Anxiety and OCD are getting a lot better, I would say that I am a recovering anxiety sufferer and I have just completed the training to become a helpliner, I started my first shift on the help line in December, I am very proud at what I have achieved and my next big challenge is to learn to drive in January, that will be a big goal because I have got Cerebral Palsy, but I will not let my Disability stop me from doing it I will get there. It might take me a bit longer to do it, I am not going to put a time scale on it, a good thing about myself, I never give up, I am not going to start now.

I want to say a big thank you to Lynne for training me to become a help-liner; she has got a lot of patience. I want to thank Sandra for being my mentor and Shelia for helping me with my OCD on the recovery group. I have appreciated all the help that I have had from No Panic and I have made many big steps which I thought that I would never achieve I have surprised myself. To No Panic thank you for helping me there is now light out of the end of that dark tunnel, even though it has been a long journey. Many thanks again. ----Jayne

The Problem

Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year - so the chances are you or someone you know will have experienced or are experiencing mental health difficulties.

You may well have seen that mental health campaigns are being featured heavily in the media and mental health is being more widely and openly discussed with many more people seeking help for such issues, whilst it is amazing that people are now feeling able to come forward and get help they are all to often finding that the help just isn't as readily available as they thought it was going to be. Long waiting times, expensive private treatment, not being in the right area, being housebound or not ticking the correct boxes all mean people are missing out on the support they need when they need it.

Anxiety disorders can be a debilitating and is so important that those affected get the support they need, support No Panic can offer.

No Panic

No Panic was founded in 1993 by the late Colin Hammond MBE who was an anxiety sufferer himself and he decided that he would try and help other people to overcome their anxiety disorders through self-help using the methods he had been taught when he was first ill. No Panic grew rapidly and now offers a full range of services for people who suffer from Panic Attacks, Phobias and Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder including:

Mentoring & recovery groups, Youth support services, 2 national helplines and extensive online support, literature, CDs and DVDs, a membership scheme and contact book and much much more!

Our support is telephone based, ensuring we can reach everyone, you can self refer which means people can access support when they need it. We aim to help everyone and understand the problems people are facing when they need help and aim to help fill the void. Our services are free or low cost with concessions for those on benefits.

The Move!

No Panic is currently operated from an office in Madeley in Telford. We have recently been offered a premises close by in Oakengates, it will allow us to move the office, have a charity shop to generate income and also act as an information point bringing No Panic into the community! The move will contribute to the continuation of the charity making us more self sufficient ensuring we will always be there for those affected by anxiety.

Whilst this is a big move for the charity we believe it will benefit the charity and allow us to support more people.

The funds generated from the shop all go back into the charity and cover running costs and support services.
