Re-Restoration of Olympic JAA 708 (Friends of King Alfred Buses, a registered charity).

An iconic monocoque chassisless underfloor-engined Leyland Olympic bus JAA 708 - from King Alfred Motor services (Winchester) is being re-built following a fire. This re-restoration will see as much of the original vehicle as possible retained.

Friends of King Alfred Buses was formed in 1985 to assist in the preservation of two KAMS buses. We now have over 16 King Alfred buses and coaches. With our volunteers, we have three running days per year - Our biggest is on 4 May 2026 - at Winchester Broadway. We are hoping to fully restore 708.

Story

Friends of King Alfred Buses (a registered charity) is delighted that the restoration of this iconic chassis-less monocoque underfloor-engined Leyland Olympic JAA 708 in the famous fleet of King Alfred Motor Services in Winchester, is now part way through a 3 year re-restoration programme.

Now in its second year, work is progressing well, using as much of the original vehicle as possible. There is still much rebuilding to be done, much of it repeating the work that was done by FoKAB's volunteers in the 10 years leading up to 2012. Two recent photographs have recently been added which shows just how much good progress has been made so far.

This work is necessary following a tragic fire on 8 December 2023 at Penton Mewsey, but JAA 708 is 'a survivor' and we look forward to the completion of this restoration, when once again, JAA 708 will happily grace the streets of Winchester at our 3 Running days each year.
