Organ appeal

Our historic organ at St John's Frome is a lovely instrument, but it's in steep decline! It is struggling week on week, and to ensure generations today and in the future can enjoy its music, we need to raise £10,000 to restore it to working order.

Our organ has been part of our heritage at St John's for centuries - the oldest parts date back to the 17th century - and in its current form it has been a vibrant part of our worship since 1923, when the organ was rebuilt by William Hill & Sons and Norman & Beard.

This year it should be celebrating those 100 glorious years, but instead it is struggling week on week and desperately needs repair and restoration. Without it, it will decline to the point of no return.

The entire top manual has ceased to operate, and its only a matter of time before more keys on the lower manuals follow suit. The planned work will be in three phases: the first phase will repair the Great manual with the subsequent two phases repairing the Swell and Choir manuals.

Despite its current shortcomings, our organ still manages to sound beautiful within a limited range. With the proper repairs it could be outstanding. We'd be so grateful if you could help us to ensure that generations today and in the future can fully enjoy its music,
