People Helping People Campaign: North Woods, Pleasant Valley and Sandy Island Overnight Camps

Caring for camp and our community matters. Camp is more than just tie-dye and smores. It is one of the very few places where every child, teen, and adult can be themselves and feel confident in who they are because they have a sense of belonging.

Story

"The joy of seeing kids both expand their horizons and just plain have fun is why I give to camp with my time and my money. And the rewards are worth far more than the cost. - Walter Parkinson, North Woods Camp Alumni

After overcoming the challenge of not being able to operate camp for the first time in 121 years, we are overjoyed to be preparing to open North Woods, Pleasant Valley and Sandy Island for the summer of 2021. It is with pride and purpose that we offer programming focused on improving both physical and mental health while empowering youth and families.

All people need a respite from technology through the joys and magic of camp, through movement in nature, connection with others, and exposure to experiences where they can learn, grow, and thrive. Yet, we are seeing a significant increase in financial barriers because of Covid. Thanks to your donation, we are able to remove these financial barriers and create opportunities for families who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend this summer. Gifts to camp also support our teen leadership development programs and help us procure supplementary supplies needed to create a quality experience. Lastly, the legacy of our camp community and its traditions are also deserving of attention. It continues to be our mission to care for our property in a robust way through physical maintenance work ensuring that camp is around for generations to come.

We realize we cannot do this alone, and rely on the time, talent, and treasure of the many others in our camp community to help us do this work. We know that when we come together with love in our hearts and respect for each other through genuine human kindness, there is nothing we cant accomplish together. Thank you - we sincerely appreciate your support.

Please have confidence that 100% of your gift will be used to support Overnight Camp initiatives. The YMCA of Greater Boston's Overnight Camps are a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization under IRS code. Your gift is deeply appreciated and fully deductible as allowed by law.
