UWL LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+) students wanted to start a scholarship for LGBTQ+ students. We know sometimes these students do not have the support of their family so paying for school can be tough. Trans and Non-Binary students may be paying for their healthcare needs out-of-pocket. Due to a students mental health needs working on top of school might be too much.

So, in 2009 and 2010 we raised money at our Annual Drag Show to begin a scholarship and in 2011 we gave out the first two Eagle Pride Scholarships. Every year we have been able to give out a $1,000.00 scholarshiop for a returning student and a $500.00 for an incoming student. In 2014 Dr. Sara Sullivan, Psychology Professor, retired from UWL and to honor her retirement we started a third scholarship for LGBTQ students who were going to study abroad. In 2014 we issued the first Dr. Sara Sullivan LGBTQ Study Abroad Scholarship to one student ($500.00.) Every year the students put at least $2,000.00 into the scholarship fund to cover the next years three scholarships. In 2020 and most likely 2021 we will not have Drag Shows and we will not be able to put money in the fund. Students have been funding these scholarships for a long time! To honor the Pride Center's 25 Anniversary on the UWL campus we would like to start a fourth scholarhsip. We would like to begin a scholarship specifically for QTBIPOC (Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students.
