Story
Gables Farm Dogs and Cats Home have recently taken in 6 tiny puppies after their breeder no longer wanted to care for them. The puppies were emaciated, full of worms and suffering from severe bloody diarrhoea when they arrived.
They are now receiving 24 hour care at Deputy Manager Ruth Rickards home until they are healthy and old enough to be adopted. The puppies have been given an intensive worming course, which will help them gain weight and have put on a course of antibiotics. The puppies are believed to be terrier spaniel crosses but are only the size of Chihuahua puppies, one weighing just 560g when she first arrived! This is little more than the weight of a tin of dog food.
It is estimated that it will cost the Home around £1000 for the ongoing treatment and aftercare these little ones need and once they reach their target weight they will also need to be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Deputy Manager Ruth Rickard said: These puppies have been so let down by their breeder and highlight the huge problem of over breeding pets when there arent enough homes for them to go to. Its now our job to make sure they get the best care we can give them and because we are a genuine non-euthanasia charity we never give up on any animal no matter how much it costs or how long it takes to find them a new forever home.
