Story

This spring walk, cycle, run, paddle or swim your way VIRTUALLY from your home or business to the location of the world-leading Roslin Institute near Edinburgh, site of the GenOMICC project funded by Sepsis Research FEAT, the UK's only sepsis research charity.

Let's face it 2020 was tough. What better way to start 2021 than with a fitness challenge that brings you and your colleagues, friends or families together. You could compete as a team from work and challenge others you know from your industry to go head to head, or compete as a family even if you live miles apart.

Just decide on your starting point and work out the number of miles from there to the Roslin Institute, Edinburgh (postcode EH25 9RG), then choose your preferred mode of travel and start covering those miles - on a treadmill, an exercise bike or around your local area!

Are you going to use the whole three months or just a few days? Do you want to average a certain number of miles a day or a week? Or do you just want to settle that age-old score with your brother in law/training buddy once and for all? The choice is yours.

If you are a Strava user you can connect the fitness app to your page to track your progress (Connecting your fundraising page to Strava ) or join our Strava Club (https://www.strava.com/clubs/814379) and catch up with other participants there. Zwift users can create meet-ups to build their miles on existing Zwift routes.

Just set up your fundraising page by clicking on the 'Start Fundraising' button above, then ask friends and family to help spread news of your challenge and to sponsor you.

Every year around 50,000 people in the UK die of sepsis - that's roughly one every 12 minutes. It can affect any of us at any time.

Walter Hall was a healthy 16-year-old and looking forward to Christmas when on 23rd December 2017 he started to feel what he thought were flu symptoms. He was disappointed because he wouldn't be well enough to go to a party. But what he thought could be flu was sepsis and by the time he got to the hospital he was about six hours away from losing his life. Walter was finally discharged from hospital on New Year's Eve. His mum Kathie says she will always be grateful for the care Walter received and during the first COVID-19 lockdown she decided to have her hair shaved off to raise money for Sepsis Research FEAT as the charity's research is also helping to find answers to fight Coronavirus.

The time has never been better to join Sepsis Research FEAT in our battle to #StopSepsisNow.

Awareness of sepsis and its symptoms can save lives and I urge people to support Sepsis Research FEAT as the only charity in the UK dedicated to raising funds for research into this potentially deadly illness and in its campaign to make more people aware of its symptoms - Lauren Connelly, 23, sepsis survivor
